More
information for Employers who want to offer the program to
their staff
What’s the tallest peak in Banff
National Park? Where did Banff get its name? How do we balance
tourism with human use?
Name 10 things that visitors can see and do while in Banff.
These are just a few of the questions that staff are able to
answer
after they’ve participated in the two-hour Banff’s
Best Heritage Orientation Program.
When staff are able to answer a customer’s question
with knowledge and confidence, the level of visitor satisfaction
increases. When staff are inspired to learn more about Banff,
they gain a sense of pride in their new community.
Part of the newly formed Banff Heritage Tourism Corporation’s
mandate is to strengthen employee orientation, training and
programming as it relates to sharing heritage understanding
with visitors. The Banff’s Best program meets this need.
The Banff Heritage Tourism Corporation has awarded the Mountain
Parks Heritage Interpretation Association (MPHIA) the contract
to deliver the program. Robyn Dinnadge, the executive director
for the Banff Heritage Tourism
Corporation describes Banff’s
Best as “a fun, interactive and free training program
that teaches employees of local business about the unique heritage
of Banff, allowing them to share new-found knowledge with visitors”.
Some hotels even tie increased compensation to participating
in the two-hour program. “At Brewster's Banff Gondola,
every new employee attends the Banff's Best program. It has
proven to have such great value that we now even tie attendance
into our performance bonus system, “ said Andrew Whittick,
General Manager - Brewster Attractions.
Whittick said, “we put visitors on the mountain's summit
with a state-of-the-art gondola, and on solid glacial ice 300
m deep with our unique snocoaches, but invariably the compliments
we receive centre around our employees. '’Well informed',
'enthusiastic', 'knowledgeable' staff are cultivated, and for
us, and that cultivation starts with Banff's Best.”
Funded by the Banff Heritage
Tourism Corporation, businesses
can book this free program for their in-house staff training,
or they can send their staff to one of the regularly scheduled
evening sessions. Programs are scheduled for the third Thursday
of every month, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., located in the Council
Chambers of the Banff Town Hall (110 Bear Street). For those
